Is it immoral to be wealthy? Is it unjust that some people have more wealth than others? What moral limits are there on how a person can gain wealth?
These are a few common questions we ask ourselves after we see someone else earning millions but not us. Well if we were the ones making the money and we earned it justly we would justify it as moral. We gained this money by working for it and it is rightly ours. If we obtained money by making scam calls to whoever you could get ahold of, that would be immoral.
Recently I was researching what the word morality meant(according to the oxford dictionary) her is their definition “principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior”. You see it is not about how rich they are, but what they use their riches for. I do believe that our society is getting more and more immoral, here is a chart I found that does not prove what I said but is still good information(Oxford dictionary), mentions of morality over the years. As you can see it has been slowly diminishing over the years.
Is it unjust that some people have more wealth than others? No, it is not, they earned that money probably by working (hard) for it. On occasion you hear about the person who just won millions of dollars, that is not immoral unless you go spend on something immoral. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting you go blow all of your money in hopes to win a lottery or something of the sort.
What moral limits are there on how a person can gain wealth? Gaining wealth is exciting for most people. Most of us dream to someday make Millions of dollars daily! However, this will probably not happen regarding hundreds of factors(That are overcomeable!). Someone who gains excessive wealth that he does not even use is very immoral. But someone who uses his vast amount of wealth to benefit others is using it correctly. In conclusion, USE YOUR WEALTH WISELY and help those in need!
