Our salvation comes from one person and that definitely is not Donald Trump.
America The Beautiful
America was founded by God-fearing men, but this was long before 1776. When the Pilgrims first landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts, America was a pagan land. This pagan land soon heard the gospel and because of God’s sovereign will it became a Christian land.
With less than 100 people landing there the initial year, and half of them dying the first year; God brought Christianity to all of the vast and mostly barren land. The Pilgrims being commonly portrayed as stoic were actually very joyful and shall we say, colorful. Though their lives brought many trials and tribulations they still kept their joy and hope in Christ. Over 100 years later America became an individual country with a heart for the Lord.
The Age Of Apostasy
Sadly, in recent years our nation has grown cold to the Lord and more accepting of the beliefs of the secularist world. Here are some of the reasons why we have become so secular. We have become proud. We are proud of our accomplishments (not recognizing God’s blessing). In our pride we have wanted to become our own gods, taking no head the one and only true God. Because of this God will judge us as a country as He has said he will do in the bible. “Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.” Matthew 11:21–23 (KJV)
We need a Savior to save us from our sin and this is unquestionably not Trump. The only one who will save our sins and our nation is the Lord Jesus Christ. He requires from us repentance and faith, then, and only then will he forgive our sins.
Trust In Him
Elections can be a scary time for some people, but God calls us not to be afraid. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9. No matter who is elected we must know that the purpose is to ultimately glorify God. Trusting in Christ requires our whole heart and all of our time. Christ, therefore, promises us eternal life in heaven so that we may, “glorify God and enjoy Him forever” Westminster Confession.
